Puzzle Tier List

The Girl in the Window has no weapons, no skill trees, and no raid bosses. The tier list on this wiki is a difficulty ranking of puzzles, because that is what players actually argue about. Rankings below mix documented walkthroughs, video comments, and the stalls we see repeated on codes searches. Your mileage changes if you read the notebook first.

This is not a power ranking of characters. Dan and Mia are story, not loadouts.

S tier — the evening killers

Vampire safe. You must hold four story items, lift every newspaper, offer them in clipping order, then copy glyphs the portrait shows. Skip any step and the steel box looks broken. Full method: vampire safe. Comments from 2019 through 2026 still ask for “the” order.

Window padlock. Lamp, curtain, indoor lights off, projection on the TV wall, notebook squares for order. It is a pipeline, not a single click. See symbol lock. Steam players miss it because they never turn the lights off. Phone players miss the curtain hotspot.

A tier — fair if you accept randomization

Plant-leaf box. The method is clean. The rage comes from copying 5364. Once you count your own pots, it drops to A. Guide: plant code.

Wallpaper grid. Easy if you look at your wall. Hard if you draw a generic M from memory. Same symbol-lock article.

TV dials. The VHS still is the entire clue. People who skipped the tape wander for twenty minutes. The walkthrough calls this out in part 2.

B tier — once you know the verb

Electrical box. Wear the glove. Rotate tiles until lines meet. It looks live-wire scary; it is a slider puzzle.

Mouse trap. Bowl, cheese, board ramp. The notebook even sketches it. Players try to grab the mouse with empty hands.

Mouse in the pipe. After you have the rodent, the cracked pipe on the TV wall is easy to treat as decoration. Tap the eyes.

Knife combines. Handle plus shard, then cheese, cushion, wallpaper. The verb is obvious after the first cut.

C tier — first-hour chores

Coat scrap + torn notebook page. Combine in inventory. If you never open the book, the cupboard stares at you.

Candle and mouse-hole cable. Lit candle, then umbrella. Two hotspots, no randomization.

Keys with different handles. Square, round, oval, hex. The difficulty is inventory hygiene, not a riddle. Getting Started names them so you stop swapping blindly.

Powering the TV. Cable plus tape plus plug. A maintenance puzzle, not a cipher.

What we are not ranking

  • The ending is a cutscene, not a fight.
  • Premium’s secret scene is extra content; we will not pretend it is a raid tier.
  • There is no PvP, no character DPS, no “best build.” If you searched a Roblox-style tier list, you are in the wrong genre — and this is not a Roblox game.

How to use the list

If you are about to start, know that S-tier locks are late. You will not meet the vampire in the first ten minutes. Learn C-tier habits on Getting Started, keep the tools checklist, and only panic when you reach the pinboard.

If you are already stuck, jump to the matching codes article instead of rereading this ranking. A tier list does not open a padlock. A notebook does.

Replay value lives in randomized puzzles. S-tier stays S-tier on a second file because the order shuffles, not because the game adds new rooms.

Community disagreement

Some players put the plant box in S because they refuse to count. We keep it in A. The clue is on the page. Some players put the electrical box in S because they never found the glove. The glove is in a drawer; that is a search issue. Rankings here punish logic walls more than pixel walls, though the window pipeline is both.

When Steam reviews start piling up after the 31 August 2026 launch, we will adjust if PC users stall on different hotspots. Input differences are documented on controls and Steam notes.

Until then: vampire and curtain-light are the bosses. Everything else is the road.
