The Girl in the Window Randomized Puzzle Codes
A map of every shuffled lock so you can ignore video overlays.
If you remember one sentence from this wiki, make it this: The Girl in the Window randomizes combinations, not layouts. The mouse hole is always the mouse hole. The number you type into the box beside it is not always 5364. This page is the cheat-sheet for that rule, written because every popular video — including good ones — gets comments from players who copied a digit overlay.
Pair this with the codes hub when you are in a close-up, and with Getting Started when you are still learning the four walls.
What shuffles every save
- Plant-box digits. Leaf counts mapped through notebook silhouettes. Examples include 5364, 4635, 6543, 3465. Method: plant code.
- Bookshelf symbol order. Roman numerals on the repaired torn page point to four glyphs that change art between saves. Method: symbol lock.
- Wallpaper grid path. Often an M, not always. Cut the paper, copy your wall.
- Window-projection glyphs. Curtain holes plus outdoor lamp plus lights-off. Notebook squares give order; the symbols themselves roll. Dedicated pipeline: window padlock.
- Newspaper offering order. Mirror, cross, garlic, wine permute under the clippings.
- Vampire-revealed safe glyphs. Because the offering order rolled, the safe string rolls with it. Method: vampire safe.
What never shuffles
- The four camera walls and which furniture sits on which wall
- Television dials as a numeric password — there isn’t one. Match your VHS still. Method: TV dials.
- Which items exist and which combines are legal
- That the notebook is the referee
- That the safe is behind the vampire painting
- That the mouse pushes a key through the cracked pipe
- That the lever opens the front door
- The story of Dan and Mia after you step out
You can follow the walkthrough on a second file and still be surprised by numbers. That is intended replay, not a broken port. Steam, Android, and iOS share this logic.
How to rebuild a code in sixty seconds
- Identify the lock type (digits, four glyphs, grid path).
- Open the notebook page that matches that lock. The tools page lists the pairing.
- Collect live data in the room (count, lift, project, cut).
- Apply book order.
- Enter. If it fails, you used world order.
Do not brute-force four-digit locks. The legal set is small but not worth wasting the evening when counting leaves is faster.
How to watch a video without getting lied to
Pause when the creator opens the notebook, not when they type. Copy their procedure. Ignore their result. The 2026 SavePoint guide and the older Allele and Inkagamer videos are all useful if you watch them that way. They are harmful if you treat the overlay as a patch-wide code drop.
This wiki will never publish a “working codes September 2026” table for the plant box. That format is for live-service titles. Here it would be fiction by next save file.
New Game and the Steam port
Starting a new file on Steam after the 31 August 2026 launch re-rolls the same set as mobile. There is no account-wide code. There is no daily code. There is no Discord bot. Anyone offering those is talking about a different game.
If a patch ever froze randomization, we would say so on updates. Until then, assume shuffle is a feature.
Teaching someone else
When a friend is stuck, do not send a number. Send the lock page. Send the notebook photo. Send this article. Hidden Town’s whole design is “look again.” A static code list would delete the game.
Use the tier list if they want to know which shuffled lock is statistically the worst. Use the review if they want to know whether the shuffle is charming or annoying. Then let them count their own leaves.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Did Steam remove randomization?
No. The 2026 PC port still shuffles combinations. Layouts stay fixed.
Can I reuse a code on a second playthrough?
Only if the new file happens to roll the same leaves and clippings. Do not count on it.
Is there a list of all possible plant codes?
A few examples are documented on plant code. Counting is faster than trying the list.
